Funding & referrals

Motus works with private health extras, Medicare chronic condition plans, DVA, NDIS and workers' compensation. You can also book privately, with no referral at all.

The notes below are a general guide only. Eligibility, limits and approvals differ between funds, plans and insurers, so please confirm your own situation with your fund, GP, plan manager or case manager.

The six ways people pay for sessions

No referral needed

Private health insurance

If your policy includes extras cover for exercise physiology, you may be able to claim part of each session back from your fund. Cover varies between funds and levels of policy, so it is worth checking your extras limits before your first appointment.

You pay for the session on the day and claim through your fund. Motus provides the receipt you need.

GP referral required

Medicare Chronic Condition Management Plans

If you live with a chronic condition, your GP may prepare a Chronic Condition Management Plan and refer you for allied health services, including exercise physiology. The number of services available under a plan is set by Medicare and is shared across every allied health provider you see in that period.

Ask your GP whether a plan is appropriate for you, and bring the referral to your first session.

GP referral required

Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)

DVA Gold and White Card holders can be referred by their GP for exercise physiology. Where the referral is in place and accepted, DVA is billed directly for the sessions.

White Card holders need the referral to relate to a condition DVA has accepted. Bring your card details to the first session.

Plan-managed & self-managed

NDIS

Exercise physiology is commonly funded under Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing. Programs focus on function, independence and the goals written into your plan.

Tell us how your plan is managed when you get in touch and we will confirm what we can offer.

Insurer approval required

Workers' compensation

Where exercise physiology forms part of an approved return-to-work plan, sessions can be billed to the insurer. Programs are built around the physical capacity your role actually requires, in coordination with your treating doctor and case manager.

Have your claim number and insurer or case manager’s details available, and we can confirm any required approval directly with them.

Start any time

Self-funded (no referral needed)

You do not need a referral to see an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. If none of the funded pathways apply to you, or you would simply rather not involve them, you can book privately and start straight away.

Session fees and travel are confirmed when you book. Ask about session length if you are unsure what to expect.

For GPs, plan managers and case managers

Motus is a mobile service, which suits clients for whom getting to a clinic is the barrier: post-operative, limited mobility, no transport, or living a long way from an appropriate gym.

  • Referrals accepted for Medicare chronic condition plans, DVA, NDIS and workers' compensation
  • Sessions delivered in the client's home, local gym or community setting across the Perth metro area
  • Particular interest in hip, knee and lower back, peri-operative rehabilitation and persistent pain
  • Written reporting back to the referrer as required
